sustanable living documentary

Posted by ramzenhs11 on May 22, 2009

This documentary fulfilled it’s intended purpose to persuade people to when they watch it because none of the things said by the interviewers was made up or rehearsed from before filmed on camera and you can tell by the way the interviewers reacted to the questions asked to them by us .They would kind of studder a little bit proving that none of what they said was rehearsed. We did a pretty good job of everything in the film.

The idea on clear organizing was pretty clear towards the documentary and this can be sure by you paying attention to the questions asked to the interviewers and the environment in the film< and also how their was a small model of the earth and how it ends up exploding showing the effects of not caring about the environment and recycling can do to the earth. Meaning not living. It was very interesting to me and I think that all the information needed was all there.

This film  was in a logical order because it would have introduces to topics, like what ever the next question was going to be asked it would be brought up in big letters before the interview would take place. It did not go too fast or too slow it was just perfect. When the next scene was to take place it cut off a little too long and too much.I did like the place it took place those      ,the lake and the trees all around them and showing how the environment was clean. I liked when there was trash shown in the grass and then all of a sudden it starts disappearing until there wasn’t even a single peace of trash on the ground. I liked how they asked the interviewers their opinions on how to live sustainably. They replied things like to recycle things like aluminum, glass, and 7 different types of plastic. To create shade in the summer to prevent heat. To use less water, like when you wash your car and taking shorter showers. Turn off lights when not needed in the house. Not getting as much gas for your car and not driving all the time because you could just use your bike sometimes to get to where you want to get to. You could use fiber instead to make things like cloths and book bags to help the environment, instead of using the environmental’s natural resources.

The whole going green thing I think is very helpful. I see it on TV. all the time and there are athletes and lots of famous  people all over the world like which can influence living sustainably and recycling because when a person see’s a person he likes doing some thing he’s gonna do the same thing. Going green can also change products and the use of them. All the money collected for taxes is said to be used by the government to help the environment but we don’t know that, but if true we can really improve our environment like that.

The effects of the environment of not caring about it can really effect the animals that live in it and if it keeps on being trashed like the way the it has been trashed pretty soon lots of animals are gonna die and the next thing you know there will be no more animals on earth causing them to extinct. The earth’s natural recourses will probably go bad and we will have nothing to survive with. That’s why people need to start caring about the earth recycling and not being lazy. Then we will die and the younger generation of us will need a place to live and they won’t be able to live in an environment that does not live sustainably. The next time you throw away a paper thing that one paper won’t make a difference think again because you’re wrong it makes a big difference.

More brain storming-Visual methaphors

Posted by ramzenhs11 on May 11, 2009

We are talking about doing visual methaphors in class. Some ideas that we have are:

Images:

  • Recycling bin
  • Solar panels
  • Plants
  • Things that use a lot of energy
  • Trash Cans – making our own trash and pulling it out everything that could be recycled and having a big pile of things aren’t being recycled
  • Plugs- Having a bunch of plugs and the lights flickering and showing how much energy is used in a way
  • Puzzle- Having a puzzle of all things that are sustainable and then zooming in too make it seem that recycling is the most important but as we zoom out it will show how small it actually is and how important other things really are. It could also be an introduction to that topic.
  • Light Bulbs- Static show the difference of the 2 bulbs and how much they really are the same but different. Put them on the same screen and ask which one is more energy efficient? And then put the price under them and things like that

Planning the visual metaphor

Posted by ramzenhs11 on May 11, 2009

One of the visual metaphors that my group came up with was someone in the bathroom with a bunch of things plugged in and the lights flickering showing how much energy is actually being used.  So expanding on that idea, I think it would be interesting to have the camera zoomed in on ONE product that is plugged in. Then slowly the camera zooms in on more and more products that are being plugged in. As the camera slowly zooms out to the full bathroom the lights will be flickering. At the very end with all the lights flickering, a static will come up about how much electricity we use a day and energy that takes up. I think that the actually filming should be in black and white just to had a little edge. But I’m not sure if that would work. So, we will be using all the shots from Extreme Close Up all the way to Wide Shot.

Street interview notes

Posted by ramzenhs11 on May 11, 2009

Street Interviews:

  • Explain what you are doing when you approach something
  • If you say what it is for you have a better chance at getting people to stop
  • The microphone should be point towards to the person and not too far away from them. Don’t let the person doing the interview take the microphone
  • Also, NO GUM CHEWING!

Conducting Street Interviews:

  • Check camera and stuff before interview! Make sure you have everything and have your questions
  • Have patience, people will walk away

Evaluating street interviews

  • Dress nice
  • Make people feel confident about their answers so they continue talking
  • If they say something you do not agree with, do not say your opinion
  • Make it clear to the person if they are talking about something else

Planning: I have to keep in mind that not everyone is going to want to stop. I will need to be patient with the people walking by and not too guide them in a certain way to get a certain answer. Some roles for the group would be: sound, interviewer, filming, and making sure everything is in place such as the slip is signed, the lighting is OK, just to make everything run smoothly.

Following up on expert interviews:

So, right now, my group still has gotten no phone calls. Recently I went the library and saw they are doing a program on sustainable living for the month of April. I figured they have to have experts for the presentations being made. I checked their homepage and it has nothing, but I will be running to the library by the weekend so I figured I would pick up a flyer and then do some calling over the weekend. Hopefully, there will be someone I can talk to or someone I can get together with for an expert interview.

Why Isn’t the brain green

Posted by ramzenhs11 on April 30, 2009

The most important priorities are jobs and econmy duer  to terrroism, deficit reduction, and energy but climate change was the least important, sense it was number 20 last on the list. The enviroment affliated something called CRED. which focuses on the mental processes that shape our choices, behaviors, and attitudes,Then two scientists Daniel Kahnmen and Amos Tversky demostrated that people behave unexpectly when confronted with simple choices, because they sit there thinking that somethings wrong because of how simple it it.It is said too that perceptions of risk and uncertainly our responses to climate change.Enviromental soulutions are attained throug technology. Anthropogenic is climate change which is caused by human behavior.Enviromental choices are made by groups.People have multiple goals but only if groups are involved.Expierence of climate change is a relative thing something happening to another part of your state.Democrates were willing to pay a fee of for an offset or a tax;Republicans, were willing to pay for an offset but not a tax. Clearly the tax frame affected the outcome-very much so for Republicans.humans are not scared when it comes to global warmimg unless humans act inherently self-correcting.

Street protests

Posted by ramzenhs11 on April 22, 2009

When all of the killing happened in Gaza a whole bunch of us Arabs spread out in different parts of st.louis and informed everyone what was happening in gaza, and there was some americans too who helped out which we appreciated very much, thanking them for caring. Now there were lots of people who ddn’t care at all, but I’m pretty sure if it was their country they would have wanted us to care, and I’m not gonna lie there was alot of people who cared and they would walk on over and help us protest about Gaza, yelling out things like free Gaza and so much more, but I wish we could have done more than just protest about Gaza, but the power was not in our hands. It was a great experience thoe and a very meaningful one too.It was seen all over the news.

Street interviews

Posted by ramzenhs11 on April 15, 2009

Street interviews are not always going to be easy.It can get frustrating , specially when they don’t let you interview them telling you no.Some people might give you answers and oppinions that you may not agree with but you have to pretend like you agree with them.If the question that you ask the person are not clearsometimes to them you should explain the question to them so that they donn’ get the wrong idea of the question , not misunderstanding the question. You need a way to catch the interviewers attention, like the way you approach them.everyone with you should have a role, like one person holds the mic to the intervier and one holds the camera, and the person who asks the question to the intervier.

The most important topic of the 5

Posted by ramzenhs11 on April 15, 2009

The most important topic out of the 5 would be human rights to me.Why because without rights humans just are not humans.Making them have no life or no say in life, making them kind of feel like they do not exist at all. With out rights the world would just fail in every thing not being able to accomplish anything. That is why rights are so important and have a big role in life.
